Mentor Graphics Expedition Enterprise Flow PCB products should work on Windows 2003 and 2008 Server running Terminal Services. However, Mentor Graphics has not performed a comprehensive test cycle in the Terminal Services environment nor have we analyzed the unique characteristics of the Remote Desktop Client and how they impact our applications. We expect there will be limitations with this technology though we cannot fully predict all issues our customers will encounter. Issues known to exist at this time include:
- High performance interactive graphics, such as the interactive editing environment of Expedition PCB or the OpenGL based environment of the Expedition 3D Viewer, may not perform as well as physical hardware.
- Installation must be performed as Administrator with the change user command set to install mode, then set back to execute mode after installation.
- Interactive applications may have minor graphics display issues because of the remote display.
- Mobile compute (aka node locked uncounted) licenses are not supported in a Terminal Server environment. Users in this environment must obtain product licenses from a license server.
Use of a Terminal Server configuration is not recommended in any situation where the limitations listed above are key considerations.
Terminal Server configurations are designed more for convenience of administration than for high performance, and therefore should not be used in situations where performance is a driving factor in user success. Any performance-related issues encountered on a Terminal Server configuration should be verified to also exist on a standard workstation before being raised with the Mentor Graphics Customer Support organization.
Mentor Graphics will make a reasonable effort to support for Expedition PCB Flow products running on a Terminal Server. This means that our application engineers will perform due diligence to assist our customers when problems arise. If no solution or workaround is found and the problem does not occur when using a standard workstation, Mentor Graphics will advise the customer to abandon the effort to run on a Terminal Server.
All other PCB Flows and products from Mentor Graphics are not addressed in this statement and should be considered completely unsupported in a Terminal Server environment.
