Alternative Configurations

The following information may be helpful if you are using one of these platforms. If you have questions about them, we'd be glad to talk to you.

DISCLAIMER: Because we do not test or support these platforms in our build environment, they are not supported platforms for Mentor Graphics. Use of Mentor Graphics software in an unsupported Alternative Platform Configuration is solely without warranty or support services and at your own risk.

HP Platform Alternatives

C.4 Falcon Software on HP-UX 11

Mentor Graphics C.4 applications are built on an HP-UX 9.05 base, and since HP cannot provide a blanket support statement for all 9.x built applications to work in an HP-UX 11 run-time environment, this platform choice is not supported by Mentor Graphics. Additionally, the C.4 applications will not run on a HP-UX 11 platform because of small architectural changes between 9.05 and 11. However, this can be overcome, and customers that have worked around the system shared library differences, report no functional differences between C.4 applications executing on HP-UX 10.20 and the unsupported HP-UX 11 environment.

D.1 Falcon software for HP-UX 10.20

Not only is this not supported, the run-time environment is not backward compatible. Though we've been asked about it, it simply is not an option. D.1 software was built under HP-UX 11.x and cannot be executed under the older HP-UX 10.20 environment.

PC Platform Alternatives

Linux

Linux Distribution Compatibility Statement
If you encounter a problem in using Mentor Graphics tools on an unsupported production Linux distribution, and the problem can be duplicated on a supported production Linux distribution, it will be addressed though normal Mentor Graphics support policies. If a problem only exists on the unsupported production Linux distribution, the fix lies in a change to the Linux environment, not the Mentor Graphics product. In this case, contact your Linux supplier.

Support Statement
A limited number of Mentor Graphics tools are available for use on Linux today. See the individual product flow supported configurations and release notes for a list of officially supported production Linux distributions for each product.

Calibre Linux Support
SuSE Linux Enterprise Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux are mainstream, fully supported OS environments for the Calibre product line. For a summary of supported versions, please see the Calibre Supported OS Configurations web page. For more detailed information, please see the Configuring and Licensing Calibre Tools Guide.

Solaris 8

Support Statement

All Mentor Graphics Solaris 2.5/2.6 applications may work on this platform. Initial binary compatibility evaluation at Mentor Graphics found no significant problems with our C.4 Solaris 2 applications executing under Solaris 8. Likewise our D.1 Solaris 2 applications, built on Solaris 7, were found to have no significant problems in a Solaris 8 run-time environment.

However, since the some tools were built and tested before Solaris 8 was available, Mentor Graphics is not prepared to support all products under Solaris 8 today. Compiler dependent Falcon tools, such as CDPLINK, DDPLINK, DFILINK may have problems in this alternate environment. For the D.1 Falcon releases we can provide a newer compiler (Mentor Cygnus GnuPro Tool Kit - June 2000 Release CD, Part Number 206710) This compiler should allow these tools to compile with respect to this alternate environment. Please contact our Customer Support Hotline and request TechNote 20432 for information on using this compiler with an existing D.1 Falcon environment.

Individual Product Flows Supporting Solaris 8 (Updated as of Dec. 18, 2001)

Board Station Flow
Solaris 8 is supported on EN2001.1, which is built on Solaris v2.6, and qualified on v2.6, Solaris 7, and Solaris 8. This includes Board Station, Board Station RE, Board Architect, Design Architect , and LMS.

IC Flow
IC Flow products are supported on Solaris 8 as of the v2001.2 release. This includes IC- Layout products and Design Architect-IC.

High Speed Design Flow (IXC and Tau)
Solaris 8 is supported in the EN2001.1 release (ICX v2.6, Tau v2.4.10).

Design-for-Test (DFT)
All Mentor DFT products for release DFT 2001.3 (8.9_4) and later have been tested and are supported on Solaris 8.

Harness Cabling
Solaris 8 is supported with the D.2 release.

HDLDesigner (Renoir)
HDL Designer is supported on Solaris 8 with the 2001.1 release. The HDL Designer Series has been tested on Sun SPARC and Ultra workstations running SunOS 5.5, 5.6, Solaris 7 and Solaris 8. Information about recommended Solaris operating system patches is available from Sun customer support or from the SunSolve Online Public Patch Access web site.

ModelSim
Solaris 8 is supported from ModelSim 5.4d onward. See ModelSim StartHere Guide at http://www.model.com/support/documentation.asp for detailed information.

Calibre
Calibre products are fully supported on Solaris 8 as of the November 2000 release. For a summary of supported versions, please see the Calibre Supported OS Configurations web page. For more detailed information, please see the Configuring and Licensing Calibre/xCalibre Tools Guide.

Synthesis
Leonardo is supported on Solaris 8 as of v2001.1D.

Embedded Software
The latest toolkits from Embedded Software Division are being tested against Solaris 8. Official support date to be announced later.

Solaris 9 Support Statement

Mentor Graphics Solaris applications may work on this platform. Initial binary compatibility evaluation at Mentor Graphics found no significant problems with our applications executing under Solaris 9.

However, since many tools were built and tested before Solaris 9 was available, Mentor Graphics is not prepared to support all products under Solaris 9 today.

Compiler dependent Falcon tools, such as CDPLINK, DDPLINK, DFILINK may have problems in this alternate environment.

Contact your Mentor Graphics representative for specific product information.

Solaris 10 Support Statement

Mentor Graphics Solaris applications may work on this platform. Initial binary compatibility evaluation at Mentor Graphics found no significant problems with our applications executing under Solaris 10.

However, since many tools were built and tested before Solaris 10 was available, Mentor Graphics is not prepared to support all products under Solaris 10 today.

Compiler-dependent Falcon tools, such as CDPLINK, DDPLINK, DFILINK may have problems in this alternate environment.

Contact your Mentor Graphics representative for specific product information.

OpenSolaris Compatibility Statement

Mentor Graphics software is tested and qualified only on Solaris distributions produced by Sun Microsystems.

If you encounter a problem using Mentor Graphics tools on an OpenSolaris distribution, and the problem can be duplicated on a supported production Sun Microsystems Solaris distribution, it will be addressed though normal Mentor Graphics support policies. If a problem only exists on the OpenSolaris distribution, the problem lies in the OpenSolaris environment, not the Mentor Graphics product. In this case, contact your OpenSolaris supplier.

D.1 Falcon software for Solaris 2.6

D.1 applications were built and tested under Solaris 7. No testing was done for backward compatibility to a Solaris 2.6 run-time environment. Though we've been asked about it, the D.1 software was built under Solaris 7 and will not run under the older Solaris 2.6 environment out of the box. Some customers have worked around the run-time library limitation between Solaris 7 and Solaris 2.6 with good results.
